Tesla's electric cars will be soon seen on the Indian roads. The Union transport ministry has approved four of its models for introduction in the country. The ministry's Vahan portal has not yet identified the models. Last year the automobile company set up its Indian unit, Tesla India Motors and Energy Pvt. Ltd to enter into its potential growth market for electric cars.

Reportedly, Tesla Model Y and Model 3 have been found moving on the Indian roads, which indicates these cars might launch soon in the Indian market. Model 3 and Model Y are some of the best-selling cars of the electric vehicle company. The Model 3 is a sedan car, whereas the Model Y sits in the SUV segment with multiple seating configurations.

According to the reports, Tesla Model 3 was the 16th best-selling electric car in the world. The electric car comes at a starting price of $35,000 (roughly Rs25.6 lakh) in the United States. Reportedly, Tesla CEO Elon Musk is also willing to set up a factory in India if the sales of its imported cars receive a good response. Tesla has been asking India for a cut in import duty on electric vehicles as the taxes are the highest and the price of the car becomes double to the comparison to the US market.
