Indian romantic classic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge to be adapted for Broadway musical
The musical will be opening on Broadway season 2022-23 with a World Premiere at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego in September 2022.
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is the most iconic film which still rules on people's hearts with the romantic story of Raj and Simran. Now, after 26 years, the film's director Aditya Chopra is all set to turn the film into a Broadway musical. It will be his debut as a director on Broadway. While expressing his thoughts on the Broadway musical and Indian films, the filmmaker said, "I am reuniting two long lost lovers." He has been working on this passion project for the past three years and has roped in a stellar, extremely diverse team, consisting of the best talents of Broadway and India.
The musical will be opening on Broadway season 2022-23 with a World Premiere at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego in September 2022. While announcing the film's adaption for Broadway musical YRF studio shared on its Instagram, "#AdityaChopra will mark his debut as a director on Broadway as he is set to direct #DilwaleDulhaniaLeJayenge again after 26 years! Titled Come Fall In Love - The DDLJ Musical."

The Broadway musical is titled, Come Fall in Love - The DDLJ Musical. It is produced by Yash Raj Films, featuring book and lyrics by Laurance Oliver Award winner Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde, Mean Girls), musical duo Vishal and Shekhar will be the music composers, Tony and Emmy winner Rob Ashford (Frozen, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Boys from Syracuse) will choreograph the musical with associate choreographer Shruti Merchant. The set design team will include Emmy and Tony Award winner Derek McLane (Moulin Rouge!, Hairspray Live!, 33 Variations) and Bill Sherman (In The Heights, Sesame Street, Hamilton) the Tony, Grammy, and Emmy Award winner will supervise the music. The executive producer for the project is Adam Zotovich.
