Cookies are the most lovable food, and we accept them in all forms but did you ever expect that cookies would be made from algae and seaweed? Yes, that's right, a Kerala based company Zaara Biotech had made cookies using algae and seaweed, even we were shocked to know about it.

But to everyone's surprise, these cookies taste delicious and, they were invented with a view to battle the current food crisis in India. Najeeb Bin Haneef a student of bio-tech in Sahrdaya College of Engineering and Technology is the founder of Zaara Biotech and started it in 2016. The company has partnered with the Indian Council of Agriculture and Research-CIFT Cochin to produce the first algae-seaweed product in India and is situated in Thrissur. Zaara Biotech has created B-lite cookies made of micro-algae. Najeeb revealed that the cookies are made up of Spirulina, non-toxic blue-green algae that are a natural source of vegan protein. It is rich in Vitamin E, B and beta-carotene.

Along with Spirulina, the cookies also include other healthy ingredients like quinoa, organic whole killers and oats. Talking about his future plans, Najeeb reportedly said that he aims to develop other food products and cosmetics like toothpaste and face packs using micro-algae. Spirulina is available in various supplements like pills, powder and medicine but now, including this into the cookies might help in fighting malnutrition and, food crisis said Najeeb.
