Northeast Frontier Railways launches new Toy-Train Safari from Siliguri to Rongtong
The Jungle Tea Toy-Train Safari will take the tourists through the breathtaking Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary and mountains.
Indian Railway's wing, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), launched a regular Jungle Tea Toy-Train Safari from Siliguri Junction to Rongtong station. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway is in suspension for about one and a half years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is their second attempt to revive the tourist industry in the region since it is the only attraction.
The Jungle Tea Toy-Train Safari will take the tourists through the breathtaking Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary and mountains. The Toy-Train will run regularly from Siliguri Junction to Rongtong hill station, it will have a heritage steam engine and a Vistadome dining car. Along with that, AC chair coaches, two general chair coaches, and two power cum-luggage coaches. The glass ceilings and windows in Vistadome coaches give a stunning view of the rivers and forests of Dooars. The Vistamdome seat costs Rs. 770 per person and, the coach has a total of 44 seats.
At the Rongtong Railway station, the tourists can have a sip of a complimentary cup of Darjeeling Tea. At the Sukna station, the railway authority is planning to open a DHR heritage photo gallery. Sanjay Chilwarwar, ADRM, Katihar division of Northeast Frontier Railway, reportedly said that tourism is the only industry and, they have decided to run maximum trains on this route. He further added that they are getting a good response from the tourists, and it will be a major attraction.
