K Madhavan appointed as the President of The Walt Disney Company India and Star India

Madhavan will be seen driving the strategy and growth of the firm in India and also taking the responsibility for the vast Disney, Star and Hotstar businesses. This includes overlooking channel distribution and advertising sales as well as a growing local content production business.

K. Madhavan has been appointed as the president of the Walt Disney Company India and Star India. Recently, it was announced today by Rebecca Campbell, chairman, International Operations and Direct-to-Consumer, The Walt Disney Company.

Madhavan will be seen driving the strategy and growth of the firm in India and also taking the responsibility for the vast Disney, Star and Hotstar businesses. This includes overlooking channel distribution and advertising sales as well as a growing local content production business. 

In a statement, Campbell said that for the past several months, she had the pleasure of working directly with KM and have seen first-hand how he has adeptly managed their India business, which has been and will continue to be critical to their global and regional strategy. A skilled leader with an extensive background in media, KM has taken their vast Star networks and local content production businesses to new heights despite continued industry evolution and significant challenges due to the pandemic.

Furthermore, Madhavan added that he is very proud to have the opportunity to lead the incredibly talented and passionate team they have in India and to further build upon their strong portfolio of channels and high-quality programming that is a favorite with viewers across the region. They have an exciting journey ahead of them. He is committed to continuing to move their business forward, working more closely together with Disney to enhance their global and regional offerings.

For those uninitiated, Madhavan worked as country manager of Star & Disney India, overseeing the company’s television and studios business in India since 2019. He had joined Star India in 2009 as its South Head. 
 
Currently, he is also serving as the president of the Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) and as chairman of the National Committee of Media & Entertainment CII (Confederation of Indian Industry).
