Viacom18 appoints Anil Jayaraj as the head of sports business

Jayaraj will look after the different business aspects such as P&L, content strategy, rights acquisition, ad sales, and marketing. He will also get a holistic view of the sports broadcasting business.

Viacom18, the joint venture between Reliance's TV18 and Viacom CBS, has appointed Anil Jayaraj as CEO of the sports business. He was previously the Executive Vice President in Star Sports, and as per the reports, Network18 and TV18, MD Rahul Joshi will step in the new role on 16 September. 

The new role has its own set of opportunities and challenges as the head of the sports business Jayaraj will look after the different business aspects such as P&L, content strategy, rights acquisition, ad sales, and marketing. He will also get a holistic view of the sports broadcasting business. The new CEO has to build the business from the ground level as Viacom18 is a new entrant in sports broadcasting and his priority will be to put together a strong team for running the sports broadcasting business. 

Reportedly Reliance was already on the verge to enter the sports broadcasting business through Viacom18. The company is tapping senior executives from rival networks for building a new team. Network18 Media and Investment holds a 51.17% subsidiary in TV18, and Independent Media Trust (IMT) holds 73.15%; Reliance Industries Limited is the sole beneficiary of IMT.
