Mercedez-Benz plans to assemble electric cars in India 

The Mercedes-Benz EQC SUV is the first standalone EV model. The five-seater luxury car produces 408hp and 765Nm with a claimed 400km of range.

German automobile company Mercedez-Benz may start assembling electric cars in India. It will be the first from a carmakers as they plan to get the profit from the lower GST rate of 5% for green cars. 

On Thursday, the company launched EQC electric car at an introductory price of Rs 99.3 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and averred that the green mobility remains an opportunity and they are now exploring plans to increase its engagement in the area.

Talking about the plan, Martin Schwenk, MD & CEO, Mercedes India said that it makes sense to look at localisation. But the EQC can't be produced here at the moment as we need bigger volumes, and we will look at the subsequent models, for local assembly.
