Spain defeats Switzerland on penalties 3-1 and locks their place in the semi-finals of Euro Championship 2020. Unai Simon goalkeeper of the Spain football team edged past 10-man Switzerland on penalties on Friday to set up a Euro 2020 semi-finals against either Belgium or Italy.

In Saint Petersburg, later a draw 1-1 which saw Switzerland play for 43 minutes a man down. In the shootout, Simon saved two-goal to keep Spain ahead to record the fourth European crown alive. Switzerland gave their best to reach the semi-finals of the tournament for the first time in history. Spain made a lead when Denis Zakaria put through his net, but Switzerland was the better side for long periods, and Xherdan Shaqiri, standing in for the suspended Granit Xhaka the Switzerland captain, brought goals on 1-1 at 68th minute.

The player's of Spain and coaching staff went into the field at Sait Petersburg Stadium, while many from the Switzerland team fell to their knees after Mikel Oyarzabal settling penalty earned a spot for La Roja in the semi-finals of Euro Championship 2020
