Madhya Pradesh's Amee Kamani and Ishika sailed into the second round in the ladies' first-round encounters. Amee defeated Tamil Nadu's Neena Praveen by 4-1.

By defeating Karnataka's seasoned player Chitra Maghimairaj in five frames, Ishika caused a flutter. Pankaj's performance improved late in the game against his Karnataka rival and he then scored a tense 27-28, 39-00, 42-28, 45-00, 00-45, 08-35 and 66-00 win to advance to the second round.
