Paramjeet Kumar becomes the first Indian to win a medal in World Para Powerlifting Championship

Earlier, Paramjeet won the bronze medal in the 49 Kg category at the 2018 Asian Para Games which took place in Indonesia.

On Sunday, para powerlifter Paramjeet Kumar became the first Indian to bag a medal in the World Para Powerlifting Championships. Paramjeet of Punjab was competing in the men's 49 Kg category in the ongoing championships in Tbilisi, Georgia. His medal-winning lift was of 158 Kg.

Egypt's Omar Shami Qarada won the gold medal with a power lift of 174 Kg in his final attempt and Vietnam's Van Cong Le won the silver medal with an effort of 170 Kg lift.

Deepa Malik, who is the president of the Paralympic Committee of India, appreciated Paramjeet's efforts with a Tweet saying, "History created for India in Para @Powerlifting by Paramjit Kumar of Punjab as he wins #bronze at the on-going World Para Powerlifting Championship in Tbilisi, Georgia. Paramjit's 158KG Lift has created history! Cheer for @ParalympicIndia team as the championship continues!
