Pune's Army Sports Institute to name a stadium after Olympic Gold Medalist Neeraj Chopra

A sports stadium of Pune's Army Sports Institute will be named as 'Neeraj Chopra Army Sports Stadium,' Pune Cantonment on 23 August in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Army Chief General M. M. Narvane.

Pune-based sports stadium of the Army Sports Institute (ASI) will be named after Neeraj Chopra, who won a gold medal in Tokyo Olympics in the javelin throw. The stadium will be named 'Neeraj Chopra Army Sports Stadium, Pune Cantonment on 23 August. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Army Chief General M. M. Narvane and Lieutenant Governor JS Nain will preside at the event. Reportedly, Rajnath Singh will also felicitate 16 Indian Army Olympians who competed in Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Neeraj Chopra got into the Indian Army via sports quota in 2016. He was a teenager then, hence, received the rank of Naib Subedar. Neeraj got most of his training from there. ASI, being a multi-disciplinary sports institute trains in, Athletics, Wrestling, Weightlifting, Boxing, Archery, Diving, and Fencing. 

World Athletics listed Neeraj Chopra's epic gold medal win as top 10 magical moments in Tokyo Olympics 2020. So far, the Athletics Federation of India, Sports Ministry, Government of India, and Army have felicitated Neeraj Chopra for his performance.
