The Indian mixed doubles team of Manika Batra and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran have reached the quarter-finals of the Table Tennis World Championship Final that is taking place in Houston. They registered a 3-2 hard-earned victory over Kanak Jha and Manyu Wang of the USA.

The start of the match of Manika and Sathiyan was heartbreaking, they lost the first two games, 15-17 and 10-12, respectively. To keep the Americans in check, the duo fought well, but they failed to close it off when needed. Both of them managed to get an edge past Jha and Wang in the third game by 12-10.

After Ranbir Bhandari and Sayeed Sultana, Manika Batra and Sathiyan  Gnanasekaran are the second-ever pair of mixed doubles to enter the quarter-finals of the Table Tennis World Championships after 1952.

Earlier, Manika Batra entered the quarter-finals of women's doubles with Archana Kamath by defeating Hungary's Georgina Pota and Dora Madaraz by 3-1.
