Tokyo 2020: Mirabai Chanu wins silver in women's 49kg weightlifting

Mirabai Chanu made successful lifts of 84kg and 87kg in the first two snatches, it was the perfect start aiming for a podium finish and wins silver medal at Tokyo Olympics

Mirabai Chanu won a silver medal in the women's 49kg weightlifting category. The Indian athlete lifted 202kg to finish second after Hou Zhihoi from China, who lifted 210kg. Mirabai is now the second Indian to win an Olympic medal in weightlifting after Karnam Malleswari, who won bronze in 1998. She also becomes the fifth individual winning the silver medal.

The world record holder was in a good position in the women's 49kg category to finish on the podium. The Indian sports fraternity hailed Mirabai's silver medal in Tokyo.
