Tokyo Olympic 2020: Bajrang Punia qualifies for semifinals in wrestling 65kg category

It is a proud moment for India as the wrestlers are acing in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics 2020. Bajrang Punia, the Indian wrestler, has booked his berth in semis of men's 65kg category. He won against Iran's Morteza Ghasi with a fall in the quarter-final. In the semis, Bajrang Punia will be facing Haji Aliyev of Azerbaijan. 

Bajrang advanced in the quarter-final over Ernazar Akmataliev of Kyrgyzstan. The bout between both the wrestlers ended with a tie 3-3, but the Indian wrestler prevailed due to the criteria of a higher point-scoring move, a 2-pointer in the first period in 1/8 final. 

 Bajrang Punia is the only Indian wrestler to win three medals at the World Wrestling Championships. Punia was encouraged to pursue wrestling at the age of seven by his father. The Indian wrestler has competed and won medals in different competitions, Asian games, Commonwealth games, World Championship, etc.
