The team scored the victory goal after Gurjit Kaur, who had a limited outing so far in the tournament, secured a goal from a penalty corner in the 22nd min of the play.
The Indian team has registered history by showcasing groundbreaking performance in the game. The women's team entered the Olympic Games semifinals by knocking out three-time champions Australia. The match went quite tough as the world no.2 Australia had a hold on the game till the last few minutes.

The women's team had finished fourth in Pool A with two wins and three defeats while the Australian team topped Pool B with an all-win record.
In the meantime, the Indian women's hockey team which is led by Rani Rampal will play against Argentina in the semifinals.
