Wimbledon 2021: Sania Mirza and Bethanie Mattek-Sands win the first-round

Sania Mirza returned to Wimbledon on Thursday as she and Bethanie Mattek-Sands defeated sixth seeds Alexa Guarachi and Desirae Krawczyk 7-5, 6-3 in women’s double.

After 2017 Sania Mirza returned to Wimbledon on Thursday as she and Bethanie Mattek-Sands defeated sixth seeds Alexa Guarachi and Desirae Krawczyk 7-5, 6-3 in women’s double. She was the doubles champion alongside Martina Hingis at Wimbledon in 2015, later in two months they won at US Open. Sania Mirza’s career in the doubles title tugs at 42 with more than 500 matches. Sania Mirza was seen like old times as she won five tour titles alongside the American.

The pair of Indo-Americans will be facing the next winners of the match between Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova-Elena Rybakina and Veronika Kudermetova-Elina Vesnina in round 2.

Sania Mirza form will play a crucial role for India as she will be representing India at the upcoming Olympics later this month. She qualified for the Olympics by her protected ranking of No.9 and her partner will be Ankita Raina.
