World Athletics U20 Championships: Amit Kumar wins a silver medal in Men's 1000m race walk event

India got its second medal with Amit Kumar's silver in the World Athletics Under 20 Championship. On the first day, India got a bronze medal from the Indian mixed relay team.

India's Amit Kumar won a silver medal in the men's 1000m race walk event of the World Athletics Under 20 Championship at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi. He finished second in the race event with a time of 42 minutes 17:94 seconds. 

India got its second medal with Amit Kumar's silver in the World Athletics Under 20 Championship. On the first day, India got a bronze medal from the Indian mixed relay team. Amit had made a new national under-20 record in the 10km race walking this year by winning the 18th National Federation Cup with a time of 40:40:97. 

It is for the first time that an Indian has won a medal in a race walking event. Also, India has won two medals in a single edition of the event. It is the sixth medal won by an Indian at the World Athletics U20 Championships. Along with the relay team and Amit Kumar, previously athletes like Seema Antil, Navjeet Kaur Dhillon, Neeraj Chopra, and Hima Das have won medals at U20 Championships.
