Facebook merges its messaging feature with Instagram DMs: Here's how it works

On Android, the Instagram users will need to update the app to 164.0.0.46.123 version while iPhone users will need version 165.0. Likewise, the users will also have to update Messenger to send messages to Instagram contacts.

Facebook has merged its instant messaging platform Messenger with Instagram’s Direct Messages. The social media giant is trying to integrate all the social media platforms to offer a cross-platform service. Apart from introducing a unified messaging platform, Facebook has created multiple features including disappearing messages, reactions, selfie stickers, chat colours and much more to the popular photo-sharing application. These changes updates are made to help Facebook to make the UI of the Insta app look similar to FB and Messenger apps. 

Instagram users will be able to send messages to their Facebook Messenger contacts with the help of this new feature. They will not have to leave the Insta app. This update is now available on both Android and iOS variants of Instagram

To start using the new feature on your mobile, you will have to opt for the cross-messaging feature. If enabled, the DM icon will be replaced with the Messenger icon on Instagram.
