Spotify launches new audio-based app 'Greenroom' to take on Clubhouse

The new app which is similar to Clubhouse has a wide range of topics and even have the option of turning those conversations into podcasts.

Spotify has officially launched Greenroom on iOS and Android which is a new application that will allow users to host or join live audio rooms. Greenroom is a social audio app that provides users to host live conversations. 

The new app which is similar to Clubhouse has a wide range of topics and even have the option of turning those conversations into podcasts. It is based on the existing Locker Room code. Spotify acquired the company behind Locker Room which was a sports-focused audio app.

In an official statement Gustav Söderström, Chief Research & Development Officer, Spotify said that creators and fans have been asking for live formats on Spotify, and they are excited that soon, they will make them available to hundreds of millions of listeners and millions of creators on the platform. The world already turns to them for music, podcasts, and other unique audio experiences, and this new live audio experience is a powerful complement that will enhance and extend the on-demand experience they provide today.

Locker Room users will have to get used to the new changes to the app. Also, the app’s white-and-red colour scheme has been swapped with Spotify's green-and-black scheme.


Spotify Greenroom is available on both iOS and Android across 135 countries. Users can sign up to Greenroom using their current Spotify accounts.
