TikTok declares a new licensing agreement with Sony Music Entertainment
According to the deal, the short-video making app will continue to offer tracks from Sony Music artists for use by the creator community
Popular Chinese app TikTok has announced a new licensing deal with Sony Music Entertainment (SME). According to the deal, the short-video making app will continue to offer tracks from Sony Music artists for use by the creator community.
In a statement the company said with this deal, the TikTok creator community will have access to sound clips from Sony Music's massive catalogue of current hits, cutting edge new releases, emerging favourites, iconic classics and deep cuts from every genre of music for use in their TikTok content.
Both the organisations will work together to establish greater levels of TikTok user personalisation and creativity on the platform and drive new opportunities for fan engagement with Sony Music Entertainment's artists and music.
Dennis Kooker, President, Global Digital Business and U.S. Sales, Sony Music Entertainment added that short-form video clips have developed into an exciting new part of the music ecosystem that contributes to the overall growth of music and the way fans experience it.
TikTok is a leader in this space and they are pleased to be partnering with them to drive music discovery, expand opportunities for creativity and support artist careers.
TikTok had already cracked short-term licensing contracts with Universal, Sony and Warner.
Talking about the same, Obermann, Global Head of Music for TikTok said that they are thrilled to enter into this agreement with Sony Music so that they can continue to work together to connect the incredible roster of Sony artists in the US and across the globe.
Reportedly, TikTok will pay Sony Music a significant raise over its previous rights deal.
