The actor and his friends from the fraternity gave the BMC Rs 1 crore to set up the centre. The Business Development Cell of BMC received Rs. 1 crore from the actor's NY Foundations in its Smiley Account. After which, the BMC gave a go-ahead for setting up the centre. While talking about the same local Shiv Sena corporator Vishakha Raut said that there was an overload of patients in PD Hinduja Hospital. Residents needed IUC beds. It’s great that Ajay Devgn supported the BMC. This ICU centre will take the load off from major hospitals and will ensure that there will be high-end treatment for patients here.
Local officials said that the centre will be managed by doctors from PD Hinduja Hospital. Joy Chakraborty, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of PD Hinduja Hospital stated that they will manage this 20 bed ICU and it will be a sort of an extension of Hinduja Hospital itself. They will provide all food, linen, medicine, and manpower including doctors and nurses. Patients will be charged as per the state government rates.
A senior civic official said that Ajay took the initiative to gather funds for the ICU centre but others like Boney Kapoor and Anand Pandit among others also joined him. Last May, Devgn had contributed funds when the BMC was setting up its hospital in Dharavi. The hospital was constructed on a 4000 sq meters plot of land which was meant to house a parking lot for the Mahim Nature Park. (MNP) and belonged to the Mmrda.
