Elon Musk's 'Dogecoin' tweet leads to meme fest on Twitter 

Elon Musk backed the cryptocurrency that takes its name and logo from a Shiba Inu meme that is much popular since past few years.

After taking a break from Twitter for less than 48 hours Elon Musk returned to the microblogging site by posting a series of quirky tweets. The Tesla CEO shared a series of tweets in support of cryptocurrency Dogecoin, which was volatile in the past few days.

Elon backed the cryptocurrency that takes its name and logo from a Shiba Inu meme that is much popular since past few years.

Taking to the Twitter profile, Musk first tweeted just a photo of the SpaceX rocket with the Moon in the background, he later tweeted one-word "Doge". He then tweeted, "Dogecoin is the people's crypto". 

Musk then tweeted a picture of the iconic scene from 'The Lion King' where Rafiki holds up a young Simba — but swapped characters' face to show him holding up a young Shiba Inu dog. He added, “ur welcome.” According to data on blockchain and cryptocurrency website, Coindesk the viral meme Dogecoin jumped 67.99% to $0.05798.

As soon as the tweet went viral netizens started memes and jokes about Musk’s love connection with the meme coin company. Here are some of the hilarious tweets which were trending by the hashtag #ThanksElon:
