IT sector to receive Rajiv Gandhi Award from Maharashtra government

Maharashtra government announces to give the Rajiv Gandhi award to the IT sector for its excellence in the field.

The government of Maharashtra announced that the IT sector will be awarded the Rajiv Gandhi award for its excellence in the field. The award is named after former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. He was known to bring the telecom revolution to India and encourage the information technology sector. 

Minister of State for Information and Technology, Satej Patil tweeted that, the government has taken an important decision to give the award in the name of Rajiv Gandhi on 20 August to encourage organizations to excel in the field of information technology in Maharashtra.

As per the IT minister of the Maharashtra government, the decision of naming this award and its constitution was taken on July 7 but the proposal was cleared by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray a few days back. To finalise the award he will have to speak to various bodies about the modalities of this award.
