Kargil Vijay Diwas: Indian Army, PM Narendra Modi, and others pay tribute to the Kargil Heroes

India celebrates 26 July as Kargil Vijay Diwas remembering the Kargil war of 1999. On this day brave soldiers executed the action plan 'Operation Vijay' by the Indian Army.

The country today celebrates the 22nd anniversary of the Kargil War in 1999. This day is honored as the Kargil Vijay Diwas every year as India successfully took command of the high outposts. The war ended on 26 July 1999 after fighting for more than 60 days. The Indian Army paid tribute to the 'bravehearts' on Twitter wrote, "On the solemn occasion of the 22nd Kargil Vijay Diwas, we remember and pay tributes to our fallen heroes who ensured the territorial integrity of our Nation. The Nation will always remain indebted for the valour & sacrifice of our #bravehearts." 

Also, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his tribute to the martyrs of the Kargil war and hailed their bravery and sacrifices. He quoted, "We remember their sacrifices. We remember their valour. Today, on Kargil Vijay Diwas we pay homage to all those who lost their lives in Kargil protecting our nation. Their bravery motivates us every single day."  

On Sunday PM Modi addressed the nation on 'Mann Ki Baat' on the occasion of the 22nd Kargil Vijay Diwas. 

Many other leaders paid tribute to the warriors of Kargil war on their Twitter handles.

The Kargil war took place for more than 60 days against the Pakistani Army who was trying to cross the Line of Control (LOC). The war ended on 26 July 1999 when the Indian army raised the tricolour on the Kargil's higher altitude area.
