Meet Dr Swati Mohan, Indian-American scientist who landed Perseverance on Mars

Dr Mohan was the Guidance, Navigation, and Controls (GN&C) Operations Lead on this epic mission.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) astrobiological laboratory called Perseverance rover successfully landed on Mars on 19 February 2021. The Perseverance rover is in search of traces of ancient microbial life on the planet.NASA termed the landing of this complicated procedure “the seven minutes of terror”. 

Dr Mohan was the Guidance, Navigation, and Controls (GN&C) Operations Lead on this epic mission. The voice that is being heard in the background of the Indian-American scientist Dr Swati Mohan.
“Touchdown confirmed! Perseverance is safely on the surface of Mars, ready to begin seeking the signs of past life,” she affirmed. Dr Mohan was also the lead systems engineer during the development being the key communicator between the team and the rest of the project.

Before the launch, Dr Mohan had tweeted a countdown on Twitter. 

According to reports, Dr Swati Mohan had migrated to the US from India at the age of one. She completed her B.S. from Cornell University in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and her M.S. and PhD from MIT in Aeronautics. Dr Mohan was also a part of the mission to Saturn (Cassini). Swati was serving on this mission to Mars since 2013.
