There has become a severe need for basic essentials in the city amidst the second wave of COVID-19. Apart from the frontline workers, many individuals are coming forward to extend their support in whichever way possible. One such Mumbai based organisation Samast Mahajan is providing free home-cooked meals to the homeless patients in Dahisar, Kandivali and Borivali areas.

Due to a surge in serious cases the availability of beds in COVID centres and hospitals have reduced and because of which the civic officials are advising all the asymptomatic patients to stay in home quarantine only. However, this created the issue of unavailability of food for the positive patients. Therefore organisations like Samast Mahajan have stepped forward to provide home-cooked meals for the patients. At present they are serving over 500 people per day. Many people from the locality are coming forward to help the organization.

Recently, the organisation received a sweet surprise. Reportedly, a woman who sought help returned the lunch box with gold bangles as a gift. While cleaning the boxes they found gold bangles. The team was left surprised and so contacted the woman to sought more information. When they contacted her she mentioned that no one was there amid the difficult situation and these people offered her food daily and that is why she gave her bangles to them so that they help other citizens like her.

Such moments indeed makes us believe 'Humanity is still alive.'
