Mumbai Metro: Metro lines 2A and 7 is expected to be commissioned by October 2021

The trial run of 19.7 km stretch from Charkop Depot to Aarey covered 18 stations- nine in Line 2A (10.5 km) and a similar number in Line 7 (9.2 km). The trials run started from Aarey Station of Line 7 and ended at Charkop Depot via Dahisar (E) station.

On Monday, the first phase of Mumbai Metro lines 2A and 7 from Dhanukarwadi and Aarey Colony in the western suburbs waved off for test runs. It is expected to be commissioned by October 2021. The remaining part of about 15 km will be completed by January 2022.

Each train is said to have six coaches of a capacity of 380 persons each. Initially, there will be a driver in these metros however after a few trips the train will run driverless. Currently, there is only one prototype available for testing. Apart from the metro trail, the stations will also be tested for amenities like lifts, escalators, passenger information systems, AFC gates and platform screen doors.

The 18.6-km fully elevated stretch of Line 2A is from Dahisar East to DN Nagar in Andheri West.
