The South Delhi Municipal Corporation has initiated a unique green drive to protect the environment. The government has installed 23 'Garbage Cafes' where free meals can be availed after deposited plastic waste.
According to the reports, 23 cafes have been spread across the south, central and west zones in Delhi. Under 'Plastic Lao Khana Khao' initiative, anybody who deposits more than one kg plastic waste would get a coupon of free breakfast, lunch or dinner in those restaurants who have partnered with South Delhi's civic body.
As per the scheme, the plastic waste may include empty water bottles, soft drink bottles, plastic cans, tetra packs and other such plastic-based stuff.
Mayor Anamika inaugurated one of the cafes and said that 12 such facilities will be opened in the south zone. Meanwhile, the central zone had 10 cafes and 1 cafe in the west zone. She further mentioned that people who are not willing to take coupons will be given half a kg of sweets as a token of appreciation.
